In short
The Lenslines app doesn't collect or send any personal data. There's no account and no telemetry, and your scripts and settings stay on your PC. Our website uses cookie-free, aggregated analytics and sets no cookies. If you email us, we use your address only to reply.

Who we are

Lenslines is made and published by Abhijeet Naik, an individual developer based in India (“we”, “us” or “our”). This policy explains how we handle personal data in the Lenslines app for Windows (“the app”) and on the website at lenslines.in (“the website”). For the purposes of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”) and, where it applies, the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), we are the party responsible for the personal data described here. You can reach us at hello@lenslines.in.

The app collects nothing

The app is designed to work without collecting anything about you. It has no account or sign-in, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no advertising. It doesn't need an internet connection to work, and it doesn't send your scripts, settings, audio or usage information to us or to anyone else. We have no way to see what you do in the app.

To do its job, the app uses a few things on your PC. All of this happens locally:

  • Scripts and settings. Your scripts, projects and settings are saved as local files on your PC under %APPDATA%\app.lenslines.desktop, or inside the app's package folder if you installed the Microsoft Store version. Settings > Privacy in the app shows the exact folder. You can delete these files at any time.
  • Microphone. The app uses your microphone only while voice scrolling is turned on. The audio is analyzed in memory to detect whether you are speaking. It is never recorded, stored or transmitted. When you turn voice scrolling off, the app stops using the microphone.
  • Camera information. To place the prompter on the right screen, the app lists the cameras connected to your PC, reading only their names and whether each one is built-in or external. It never turns a camera on and never captures images or video.
  • Clipboard. The app reads your clipboard only when you choose to paste or use “Prompt from clipboard”.
  • Files you import. When you import or drop a .txt, .md or .rtf file, the app reads that file to copy its text into your library.
  • Screen-capture exclusion. Hiding the prompter from screen sharing is a Windows setting the app applies to its own windows. The app doesn't capture, record or inspect your screen.

Microsoft software the app relies on

The app relies on standard Windows components provided by Microsoft. On a few Windows 10 PCs one of these components isn't installed yet, and the app shows a prompt that opens Microsoft's download page. Microsoft maintains and updates these components independently of Lenslines, and any data they process is governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement and your Windows settings, not by this policy.

Purchases through the Microsoft Store

Lenslines is sold through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft handles purchases, payments, refunds and downloads under the Microsoft Store terms and the Microsoft Privacy Statement. We never receive your payment card details.

Microsoft may make reports available to developers, for example about sales, acquisitions or installs of an app. As we understand it, these reports are generally aggregated and are not designed to identify individual customers. We use them only to understand how Lenslines is doing. If any information we receive from Microsoft could relate to you, we handle it in line with this policy.

The website

  • Hosting. The website is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel's servers process standard request data, such as your IP address, browser user agent and the page you request, to deliver the website and protect it from abuse. Vercel may keep this data in logs for a limited time under its own privacy policy.
  • Analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that doesn't use cookies. It shows us aggregated page views and similar summary information, such as which pages are popular and which sites referred visitors. We don't use it to identify you or follow you across other websites.
  • No cookies or advertising trackers. We don't set any cookies on the website, and we don't use advertising, social media or cross-site tracking scripts.
  • Email. If you email hello@lenslines.in, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply and help you. We don't add you to a mailing list, and we don't sell or share your email address.

We process only the small amount of personal data described above, and only for the purposes described above.

  • India (DPDP Act). When you email us, you give us your email address and message voluntarily so that we can reply. We use them only for that purpose, which the DPDP Act treats as a legitimate use. Where the Act requires your consent, for example for website request data, we process that data on the basis of your consent, which you give by choosing to use the website or contact us after reading this notice. You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing hello@lenslines.in. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect processing that already took place, but we may not be able to reply to you without your email address.
  • EU and UK (GDPR). We rely on our legitimate interests in delivering and securing the website, understanding its use in aggregate, and answering the messages you send us. We have balanced these interests against your rights and keep the data involved to a minimum.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what personal data we hold about you and ask us to correct, update or delete it. In practice, this is usually just an email thread. Email hello@lenslines.in and we will respond within a reasonable time, and within any deadline the law sets.

  • In India, under the DPDP Act you have the right to access information about your personal data, to have it corrected, completed, updated or erased, to have your grievances addressed, and to nominate another person to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to do so.
  • In the EU, EEA and UK, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection and data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Because the app keeps your scripts and settings only on your PC, we can't access, export or delete them for you. You control them directly: delete them in the app, or remove the data folder shown in Settings > Privacy.

Grievance contact

If you have a concern or complaint about how we handle your personal data, contact our grievance officer: Abhijeet Naik, hello@lenslines.in. Please include “Grievance” in the subject line. We will acknowledge your message promptly and aim to resolve it within the time required by the DPDP Act and the rules made under it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may approach the Data Protection Board of India as the Act provides.

Children

Lenslines is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. The app doesn't collect personal data from anyone, of any age. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before contacting us. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, let us know and we will delete it.

International transfers

We are based in India. The website is delivered through Vercel's global infrastructure, and Microsoft runs the Microsoft Store and its related services on its own infrastructure. This means data such as website request logs and purchase records may be processed in the United States and other countries where these providers operate. These providers describe the safeguards they use, such as standard contractual clauses where required, in their own privacy policies. Any transfer of personal data outside India is made only as permitted under the DPDP Act.

How long we keep data

The app sends us nothing, so there is nothing to keep. Vercel keeps request logs for a limited period under its own policies, and our analytics are kept only in aggregate. We keep emails for as long as we need them to help you and for a reasonable period afterwards for our records, and we delete them sooner if you ask.

Security

Because the app doesn't send data anywhere, your scripts are as secure as your PC and your Windows account. The website is served over HTTPS. We use reasonable security safeguards to protect the personal data we hold, appropriate to the small amount of it. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but if a personal data breach ever affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app, the website or the law changes. When we do, we will update the date on this page. If a change significantly affects how we handle personal data, we will make it clear on the website and, where the law requires, ask for your consent again.
