Getting started

How do I install Lenslines?

Lenslines is coming soon to the Microsoft Store. Once it's live, open its Store page, buy it and install it like any other Store app. It's about a 2 MB download and runs on Windows 11 and Windows 10 version 2004 or later, 64-bit.

How do I open the prompter?

Press Ctrl+Alt+P from any app. You can also start it from the Lenslines icon in the notification area (the tray) near the clock. Press Ctrl+Alt+P again to close it.

How do I create my first script?

Open the Lenslines library from the tray icon, create a new script, and type or paste your text. Pasting cleans up formatting from Word, Google Docs and web pages. You can also import .txt, .md and .rtf files, or drag them onto the library.

How do I add cues and notes?

Start a line with # to turn it into a cue you can jump to with Ctrl+Alt+PgUp and Ctrl+Alt+PgDn. Put reminders in [square brackets] to show them dimmed on the prompter, and wrap words in double asterisks for emphasis.

How do I start scrolling?

Press Ctrl+Alt+Space to play or pause, or press Ctrl+Alt+V to turn on voice scrolling and just start talking. Ctrl+Alt+← and Ctrl+Alt+→ make it slower or faster.

How do I move the notch?

Drag it along the top of the screen, or onto another monitor, and resize it from its edges and corners. Pull it down to turn it into a floating window, and push a floating window into the top edge to dock it as a notch again.

Voice scrolling

Will voice scrolling block my microphone in Zoom, Teams or Google Meet?

No. Windows lets several apps use the same microphone at once, and Lenslines shares it without ever taking exclusive control, so your call app hears you exactly as before. Lenslines only measures how loud you are to decide when to scroll. For the best results, pick the same microphone your call app uses in Settings > Voice, and wear headphones so other people's voices from your speakers don't move the text. One thing to know about Bluetooth earbuds: whenever any app uses their mic, Windows switches them to call mode, which lowers playback quality. On a call that happens anyway, but if you're recording on your own, use your PC's built-in mic instead.

Voice scrolling doesn't move the text. What should I check?

First, open Windows Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and make sure microphone access is on and that Lenslines (or desktop apps) is allowed to use it. Then open Settings > Voice in Lenslines, check that the right microphone is selected, and speak to see if the level meter moves. If the meter moves but the text doesn't, raise the microphone sensitivity.

How do I choose which microphone Lenslines uses?

In Lenslines, go to Settings > Voice and pick a microphone from the list, or leave it on System default to use the one Windows uses. Speak and watch the live level meter to confirm it hears you.

The text moves with background noise. How do I stop that?

Lower the microphone sensitivity in Settings > Voice. The white line on the level meter is the trigger level: background noise should stay to the left of it, and your voice should cross it. Headphones help a lot in noisy rooms, and they also stop call audio from your speakers reaching the mic.

The text stops every time I take a breath.

Increase Pause after silence in Settings > Voice. It sets how long you can stop talking before the text waits, so a slightly longer setting lets you breathe without stopping. If the text keeps moving after you've finished a sentence, lower it.

Does voice scrolling follow my words?

No. It's based on voice activity: the text moves while you speak and pauses when you pause. It doesn't transcribe or track individual words, so if you go off-script, use the mouse wheel or jump to a cue to find your place.

Is my audio recorded?

No. Audio is analyzed in memory on your PC to detect when you're speaking. It's never recorded, stored or uploaded, and the microphone is only in use while voice scrolling is on.

Screen sharing and recording

Will people see the prompter when I share my screen?

Not by default. Lenslines uses Windows' screen-capture exclusion, so the prompter doesn't appear in screen shares or recordings in Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Discord, OBS, Loom, Snipping Tool or screenshots. It works with apps that use Windows' standard screen capture, which is nearly all of them.

How do I show the prompter in a recording?

Open Settings > Privacy and turn off Hide the prompter from screen capture. You can also switch it from the tray menu. Remember to turn it back on before your next call.

Can I hide the library window too?

Yes. In Settings > Privacy, turn on Hide this library window too. It helps when you share your whole screen while editing a script.

Why does Lenslines need Windows 10 version 2004 or later?

Windows' screen-capture exclusion is only available from Windows 10 version 2004 onwards, which is also Lenslines' minimum version. Every version of Windows 11 includes it. To check your version, press Windows+R, type winver and press Enter.

Can a phone camera see the prompter?

Yes. Capture exclusion only affects software that captures your screen on your PC. A phone or camera pointed at your monitor sees exactly what you see.

A recording app still shows the prompter. Why?

Nearly all recorders use Windows' standard capture, but a few capture the screen in other ways. Check that Hide the prompter from screen capture is on, try the app's other capture mode if it has one, and let us know the app's name at hello@lenslines.in.

Shortcuts

What are the default shortcuts?

Ctrl+Alt+P shows or hides the prompter, Ctrl+Alt+Space plays and pauses, Ctrl+Alt+↑/↓ rewinds or skips, Ctrl+Alt+←/→ changes the speed, Ctrl+Alt+PgUp/PgDn jumps between cues, Ctrl+Alt+Home goes back to the start, Ctrl+Alt+V turns voice scrolling on or off, and Ctrl+Alt+M switches between notch and floating.

A shortcut doesn't work. Why?

Usually another app has already claimed the same key combination, so Lenslines can't use it. Settings > Shortcuts marks any shortcut it couldn't set up. Choose a different combination there, or change the shortcut in the other app.

How do I change a shortcut?

Open Settings > Shortcuts, click the shortcut you want to change and press the new key combination. The reset button next to each shortcut brings back its default.

Why do the playback shortcuts do nothing?

Playback shortcuts, such as play/pause, speed and cue jumps, only work while the prompter is open, so they never interfere with other apps. Press Ctrl+Alt+P to open the prompter first.

Can I control Lenslines from a Stream Deck?

Yes, through the command line. Set a button to run Lenslines.exe with --toggle-prompter, --prompt-clipboard, --open or --action=playPause. Other actions are nextCue, prevCue, faster, slower, rewind, forward, restart, toggleVoice and toggleMode.

Troubleshooting

Lenslines asks me to install a component from Microsoft.

Lenslines needs a free Windows component from Microsoft. It comes with Windows 11, but a few Windows 10 PCs don't have it yet. If yours doesn't, Lenslines shows a prompt that opens Microsoft's download page. Install it, then open Lenslines again.

The prompter opened on the wrong screen.

Lenslines picks the screen your webcam is on: the built-in screen for a laptop webcam, or the main display for an external one. If that isn't where your camera is, drag the notch to the right screen, or choose a display in Settings > Position. Move under camera, in Settings > Position or the tray menu, puts it back under the webcam.

What is low memory mode?

Low memory mode, in Settings > General, draws the prompter without using the graphics card. It uses less memory while prompting, in exchange for a little more CPU. Lenslines needs a quick restart for the change to take effect.

Where are my scripts and settings stored?

Only on your PC, as local files in %APPDATA%\app.lenslines.desktop. The Microsoft Store version may keep them inside its package folder instead. Settings > Privacy shows the exact folder and lets you copy the path.

How do I reset my settings?

Open Settings > General and choose Reset next to Restore default settings. Appearance, playback, voice, position and shortcuts go back to their defaults. Your scripts and projects are not affected.

Purchases and refunds

How much does Lenslines cost?

$9.99 as a one-time purchase. There is no subscription, you keep it forever, and updates are free. The Microsoft Store shows the price in your local currency, and there is a launch discount in India.

Is there a free trial?

No. The Microsoft Store collects payment before the download, so there is no trial.

Can I use Lenslines on more than one PC?

Yes. Your purchase is tied to your Microsoft account, so you can install Lenslines on your Windows PCs signed in with the same account, within the limits the Microsoft Store allows.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by Microsoft, so refunds go through Microsoft's refund policy. You can usually request one from the order history in your Microsoft account. We don't receive your payment details, so we can't issue refunds ourselves.

How do I contact you?

Email hello@lenslines.in. Tell us your Windows version and what you were doing when the problem happened, and we'll get back to you.
