Best teleprompter for Windows 11 (2026): 10 apps compared

A fair, sourced table of 10 teleprompter apps for Windows, free and paid, with who each one suits and how to check the screen share claims yourself.

By Abhijeet Naik · · 10 min read

Updated November 2, 2026. The best teleprompter for Windows 11 depends on how you use it. For free, QPrompt (a desktop app) and CuePrompter (in your browser) are good starting points. For voice scrolling, look at Speakflow, Teleprompter Pro or ShareSpeak. If you want the script right under your webcam and hidden from screen shares, compare Webcam Teleprompter, Sayline and Lenslines.

One thing up front: we make Lenslines, so weigh that. We've tried to be fair. Every fact about the other apps below comes from the vendor's own website or Microsoft Store listing, checked on the date above. Where a vendor doesn't say something, we write "not stated" instead of guessing.

Quick comparison: 10 teleprompter apps for Windows

Prices are the US prices shown by each vendor. "Hidden from screen shares" means the vendor says so. It does not mean we tested it.

The 10 teleprompter apps for Windows, one by one

1. QPrompt

Best for: a free desktop teleprompter with no strings attached.

QPrompt is free and open source, and its site says you can use it for any purpose, including commercial work. The current version supports Windows 10 and later, plus Mac and Linux. It can prompt to more than one screen, has markers you can jump to, a built-in timer and a background you can make semi-transparent.

  • Good: free for any use, works offline, handy for studio setups with extra screens.
  • Keep in mind: the site doesn't mention voice scrolling or hiding from screen shares. It's a regular window, so place it near your camera yourself.

2. CuePrompter

Best for: reading a script in your browser right now, with nothing to install.

CuePrompter runs in any modern browser. Its homepage says there's no sign up and no download, and it's free for commercial and personal use. You can change the speed, pick a color theme and mirror the text for teleprompter glass.

  • Good: works on any PC in seconds, even one you can't install apps on.
  • Keep in mind: no voice scrolling. It's a browser tab, so it shows up if you share your whole screen. Share a single window instead.

3. Speakflow

Best for: voice scrolling on a free plan, and teams that write scripts together.

Speakflow runs in a browser and also has apps for Mac, Windows, iPhone and iPad. Its pricing page says Flow, its voice-activated scrolling, is included on every plan, including Free. Paid plans start at $15 a month, billed yearly. Its Overlay feature, which floats your script over Zoom, Meet or Teams, is part of the Plus plan.

  • Good: voice scrolling at no cost, works across devices.
  • Keep in mind: the paid plans are a subscription. Its desktop app is in beta, and its help page says it's hidden from screen capture, but doesn't say which platforms that covers.

4. EZ Teleprompter

Best for: a free Store app that also runs on your phone and tablet.

EZ Teleprompter by Ape Apps is free on the Microsoft Store. You write scripts in the app or import plain text files. Scripts can sync through an Ape Apps account, and the app is also listed for web, Android, iPhone, Mac and Linux.

  • Good: free, simple, cross-device sync.
  • Keep in mind: the vendor page links a premium upgrade but doesn't list its price. Voice scrolling and screen share hiding are not stated.

5. Virtual Teleprompter

Best for: a see-through window you lay over your call.

Virtual Teleprompter by VTP Apps comes in two Store versions. The free one is limited to 1,000 characters. Virtual Teleprompter PRO costs $8.99 one-time and removes the limit. You can adjust transparency, speed, fonts and colors, and there's a timer and a mirror option. The listing says it works with Zoom, Teams, Webex and Google Meet.

  • Good: long track record on the Store, fair one-time price.
  • Keep in mind: 1,000 characters is roughly 150 to 200 words, so the free version suits short notes. Voice scrolling and hiding are not stated.

6. Teleprompter Pro

Best for: recording yourself inside the teleprompter, or a dual screen setup.

Teleprompter Pro by Purple Wizard has been on the Microsoft Store since 2013 and costs $8.99. The listing offers a 1 day trial. It can mirror and flip text for teleprompter hardware, supports wireless presenter remotes and dual screens, and records your webcam inside the app. It also lists voice control.

  • Good: lots of features for the price, works with presenter clickers.
  • Keep in mind: it's a regular window, not docked under the camera. Screen share hiding is not stated.

7. Webcam Teleprompter

Best for: the lowest price for a reading band docked under your webcam.

Webcam Teleprompter by Richard Pham arrived on the Store in late October 2026 and costs $4.99 one-time. Its Store listing says the reading band docks below the camera and stays out of screen sharing in Teams, Zoom, Meet and OBS. You set the speed in words per minute, and lines starting with // stay private.

  • Good: low one-time price, under-camera placement, clear notes about its limits.
  • Keep in mind: voice scrolling is not stated. The listing itself warns that capture cards and a camera filming the screen can still show it.

8. Sayline

Best for: trying an under-camera prompter for free before you pay.

Sayline by Cobaltline Software also arrived in late October 2026. Its Store listing describes a slim panel under your webcam, hidden from screen sharing and recording on Windows 10 version 2004 or later. The free version scrolls at a steady pace. A one-time $9.99 in-app purchase adds voice following, a phone remote and PowerPoint speaker notes import.

  • Good: a free version with screen share hiding, plus a "Check now" button that shows what a share would capture.
  • Keep in mind: voice following needs the paid upgrade and a supported language. It's new, with few reviews so far.

9. Lenslines

Best for: a one-time $9.99 app that sits under your webcam.

This is ours. Lenslines shows your script in a black notch at the top of your screen, right under your webcam. You can pull it down into a floating window, and mirror it for teleprompter glass. It's hidden from screen shares and recordings in apps that use Windows' standard capture, such as Zoom, Teams and Google Meet. Voice scrolling moves the text while you speak and pauses when you stop. There's more detail on our teleprompter for Windows page.

  • Good: one-time price, no account, scripts stay on your PC, about a 2 MB download.
  • Keep in mind: there's no trial, since the Store charges before you download. Voice scrolling follows voice activity, not your words, so it keeps moving if you talk off script. It's Windows only, with no Mac version, and it's new on the Store too.

10. ShareSpeak

Best for: people who switch between a Windows PC and a Mac.

ShareSpeak costs $14.99 one-time, and its site says the price rises to $17.99 after the first 1,000 users. One license covers 2 devices. Its Windows download page says hiding from screen sharing needs Windows 10 version 2004 or newer, or Windows 11. It scrolls with your voice, and there's a 21 day refund window.

  • Good: works on both Windows and Mac, voice scrolling, refund window.
  • Keep in mind: it's a direct download, not on the Microsoft Store. Its site doesn't say where the text sits on Windows.

Which teleprompter app for Windows should you pick?

Start with how you'll use it. The right teleprompter for PC looks different for a webinar host than for a YouTuber.

  • You want free and you record alone: QPrompt or CuePrompter. Nobody sees your screen, so hiding doesn't matter.
  • You want voice scrolling without paying: Speakflow's free plan.
  • You present on Zoom or Teams and share your screen: pick an app that says it's hidden from screen shares, such as Webcam Teleprompter, Sayline, Lenslines or ShareSpeak. Our guides to a teleprompter for Zoom and a teleprompter for Microsoft Teams cover setup.
  • You use teleprompter glass or a second screen: Teleprompter Pro or QPrompt, which both handle extra screens.
  • You care most about eye contact: pick an app that sits under the camera. The closer the text is to the lens, the less your eyes drift away from the camera. Our eye contact on video calls guide explains why.

Whatever you pick, settings matter as much as the app. Keep lines short, use large text and set the speed to your real pace. Our teleprompter settings for webcam guide gives starting numbers. If you aren't sure of your pace, the chart in how many words is a 5 minute speech helps.

Can a teleprompter stay hidden when you share your screen?

Yes, on most setups. Windows lets an app ask to be left out of screen captures. Several apps above say they use this setting. Zoom, Teams, Meet and most recorders then capture everything except that window. We explain it in more detail on our teleprompter hidden from screen share page.

There are limits, and several vendors list them. A capture card, a phone filming your screen or a remote desktop view can still show the prompter. Older builds of Windows 10, before version 2004, may show a black box instead.

Test it before a real call. It takes 2 minutes:

  1. Start a Zoom or Teams meeting with just yourself.
  2. Open your teleprompter and share your entire screen.
  3. Start a recording, read a few lines, then stop.
  4. Play the recording back. If you can see your script, the app isn't hidden on your setup.

If your teleprompter doesn't hide, share a single window, such as your slides, instead of the whole screen. That works with any app on this list.

How we checked these apps

We opened each vendor's own website and Microsoft Store listing on November 2, 2026, and took prices and features from there. We didn't copy claims from other lists. If something wasn't on the vendor's page, the table says "not stated", even where we suspect the answer.

We haven't run all 10 apps through the same test, so this isn't a lab review. The free apps cost nothing to try, and the Store lets you read each listing in full before you buy. Prices and features change often, so check the listing before you pay. We'll keep this page updated.

All product names are trademarks of their owners. Lenslines is not affiliated with any other app on this list.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free teleprompter for Windows?

Yes. QPrompt is a free, open source desktop app for Windows 10 and later. CuePrompter is free in any browser. EZ Teleprompter is free on the Microsoft Store. Speakflow has a free plan with voice scrolling. Virtual Teleprompter and Sayline both have free versions, with limits or paid extras. Can a teleprompter stay hidden when I share my screen on Zoom?

Yes, if the app asks Windows to leave its window out of screen captures. Webcam Teleprompter, Sayline, ShareSpeak and our app say they do this. Zoom then shares everything except the prompter. Capture cards or a camera filming your screen can still show it. Test with a recorded meeting on your own first.

Which teleprompter works with Microsoft Teams?

Any Windows teleprompter works next to Teams, because it runs as its own app. The difference shows when you share your screen. A normal window appears in the share, so either share one window or use an app that says it's hidden from screen shares. Our Teams teleprompter page walks through setup.

Yes. Speakflow includes voice scrolling on its free plan. Teleprompter Pro lists voice control. ShareSpeak scrolls with your voice, and Sayline adds voice following with a $9.99 upgrade. Ours moves while you speak and pauses when you pause, based on voice activity.
